For years, the “Große Hilfe für kleine Helden” (Big Help for Little Heroes) foundation has been providing significant funding for state-of-the-art medical technology at the SLK Children’s Hospital.
For example, it is currently considering the purchase of an “MRI-compatible monitor with MRI mirror,” which would offer immense advantages for MRI examinations of young patients. Put simply, children are distracted during the MRI scan by watching films, for example, which helps them to lie still and not be afraid. This sounds simple, but it requires sophisticated medical technology that can be used during complex MRI examinations.
One advantage of this technology is that it reduces anxiety in the run-up to the examination, and parents are also more reassured. As a result, this leads to a significant reduction in general anesthesia during MRI examinations of children, thus sparing our “little heroes”! The device is currently undergoing a trial phase at the children’s hospital, with consistently positive feedback!
The cost of the entire technology system is in the mid five-figure range. Such devices can only be financed through donations to the foundation.
